Owen Mercer and Drew Eislund are 8th graders at Live Oak School in San Francisco. They have a passion for soccer and have been playing on competitive teams for six years. They hope that bringing soccer gear to those who don't have it will give more kids the opportunity to experience the joy of the "beautiful game."

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world; however, many children don’t have the equipment that they need to play. Therefore, we are partnering with Soccer Without Borders and America Scores Bay Area to bring soccer gear to kids in need in the US and abroad.

Soccer Without Borders has programs in ten countries across three continents, and serves countries like Nicaragua, Argentina, Costa Rica, Egypt and El Salvador. They create positive team communities for recently arrived refugee and immigrant youth. Soccer Without Borders uses soccer to connect refugees from 25 different countries. As youths adjust to their new and often difficult circumstances, their Soccer Without Borders team provides an avenue for positive engagement. They provide a safe environment for youth to create relationships with mentors and peers that will help for a successful integration into their new life here in the US. They work with children from the age of five to twenty one.

America Scores Bay Area supports the children of both San Salvador and the Bay Area by providing summer camps with scholarships and uses soccer as a way to educate them about poetry and peace. They believe that soccer can keep these kids out of trouble by engaging them in soccer. Their mission is to help children who live in urban communities become better leaders and help give them a better shot at growing up to make a difference in the world. They partner with urban schools to provide high quality, after-school programs that integrate soccer, poetry and service-learning. This helps their academic achievements, health, and civic engagement.

In order to help Soccer Without Borders and American Scores Bay Area, we are asking for gently used cleats, soccer shoes, shin guards, balls and soccer clothing for both boys and girls. We will schedule a day for drop off in August.

Thank you and we appreciate your support!
